Four distinct styles of movement designed to work together to improve your overall level of fitness.
A FIRM class does it all. We begin with a Creative Vinyasa Yoga FLOW to ground yourself, clear your head, build body heat and to stretch and release tight muscles. Once the body is warm, we up the ante and INTENSIFY our workout with 20 min of upper body and lower body power moves to build stamina and endurance. The final 20 min of class we TARGET and TONE specific muscle groups that are the very basis of building a better body. Think core x 10 and a variety of other exercises that result in strong, long, lean, muscles. In this class we will use bands, blocks, loops and gliders.
Studio temp set to 75 - there will be no hiding behind artificial heat in this class! You will earn every ounce of sweat.
No dizzy spells, no dehydration.

FLOW is 60 min of a strong and soothing Yoga Flow. My FLOW is organic in nature; I link poses that feel good when they fit together and sometimes surprise your mind and body. Let go of what a "normal yoga class" is and come in with an open mind. Stretching and strengthening go hand-in-hand and I love being able to add my own special sauce to traditional yoga postures. You will leave stronger, calmer, and happier. The class itself is 55 min of FLOW with a guaranteed 5 minutes of Savasana. We all want the Savasana, right?
Class length is 60min
FIRE is a sweaty 45 min cardio/core class. Expect lots of muscle burn, body weight exercises, and cardio intensity. I include core strengthening, since we all need it repeatedly and consistently to keep our backs and joints healthy. And lastly I always teach ways to find optimal form for the best results, especially in a cardio class. FITT FIRE will challenge you mentally and physically but will not break you. Exercises will be stacked and rotated throughout class and on a weekly basis. We warm-up and cool down for about 3 minutes total, with 42 minutes of work-out. It's fast but not furious; a class you will LOVE. Savasana in this class is brief, just enough time to take a few breaths and wipe off your sweat.

Sometimes you just want more. For those of you who want more cardio, more cross training, on the weekends we get out of the studio and into the great outdoors. Think sprints, crawls, crab walks, jacks, jumps and boxing.
It's BootCamp at it's best.
You buy a monthly series of Saturday classes, and we need a minimum of 3 people for it to happen.
We meet at Live Oak Park in Berkeley, on the Shattuck side of the park, underneath the sign. Super easy to find!

WHAT DO I NEED FOR CLASS?
Your mat, water and a towel. If you forget your mat or towel, we have them. No problem, and no charge. During class, we'll work with blocks, straps, bands, loops and gliders - all provided. No shoes. Bring your H2O!
DO I NEED TO PRE-BOOK MY CLASS?
No. But it's a good idea to arrive 10 min early to grab your space. Studio doors open 15 min before class starts. When you arrive, please sign-in with your name, email and phone. The best thing to do is to pay for your class/classes prior to arriving via Venmo - that will be a big time saver.
DO YOU TAKE CREDIT CARDS?
No. Venmo @Heather-Gersh or cash only. Easy.
DO YOU TAKE CLASS PASS?
YES! You can now book via Class Pass.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
On the newest section of 4th Street in Berkeley, CA. Classes are held at Hatha Yoga Shala East Bay. A beautiful studio with maple floors, natural light and 2 gender-neutral ADA accessible bathrooms (no showers). The studio is directly across the street from Sierra Nevada Taproom and TitleNine and situated right btwn Catahoula Coffee and Laquerbar.
IS THERE PARKING?
Yes! There is a parking lot directly behind the building on Essex Way at Addison, with reserved spaces that you can park in, as well as the new 3-hour free lot for 4th Street businesses located on 5th street, next to Maker's Row (behind SoulCycle, Anthropologie, Project Juice, etc). Ample street parking too (some metered, some not).
WILL THERE BE MUSIC?
Yes! Music adds energy, emotion and connection. Those of you who know me, know that music is integral part of my class. Classes are music supported and beat driven, in other words - most of the classes, most of the time, are tied together: movement, music and muscle action.
I have loved moving my body since I was young. As a child, I would swing, run, roll and climb. My parents quickly signed me up for whatever would burn my energy.
I played team sports at a very young age: soccer, track, and tennis (Mostly soccer, a lot of soccer, up and through college). But I also loved gymnastics and dance and studied modern dance as a young adult. In my 20’s, I went through a big kickboxing phase. I love the power, energy, gracefulness and catharsis you get from kick boxing — there is nothing so satisfying as punching a bag, nor as challenging as throwing punches and kicking at the same time. I still like to get in the boxing gym every once in awhile, and I still love to workout with a barre, but regardless of what I do, I know that exercise is about more than the physical – it's about self-care. It’s a dedication and honor to yourself. It puts yourself first.
Physically, the benefits are strong muscles and healthy joints. Mentally, you let go of stress and rid yourself of tension. But the true magic that comes with fitness is that every single system in your body thrives when you exercise - including your cardiovascular, nervous, muscular, lymphatic, digestive, respiratory and even reproductive system (so careful what you wish for).
Bottom line, I LOVE what I do and I'm good at it. I have a passion for teaching classes, taking classes, and pushing/encouraging people to be their best selves.
